3 simple steps for the whole family to be able to maintain an organized home

1. Every item in the house has its very own home.
This first step makes it easy for the whole family to contribute to keeping the house more organized and chaos-free. If the legos have a large bin to live in and the stuffed animals have an oversized basket to reside in, finding their way home at night is easy for even the littlest members of the family. This works for all of the things in your house. A charging station for electronics, hanging hooks for backpacks or sports bags and craft caddies for art supplies are just to name a few.
2. Keep it personal.
Be sure to make your newly organized home personalized to meet your family’s needs. This means that if you do not want dirty shoes piled up in the foyer yet you have 3 teenage children, keep a decorative basket there leaving no excuses for them not to literally “kick off their shoes” into the basket upon arrival at home. You might have toddlers not capable of putting a jacket on a hanger in the coat closet each day. Instead, try attaching command hooks on the inside of the closet door low enough for your toddlers to reach. This will not only keep them from throwing their jackets on the floor but also make your little one feel grown up and responsible just by hanging up their own jacket.
3. Minimize your overstock.
Do you really need 15 bath towels when only 4 people live in your house? Is it necessary to have 4 sets of sheets for each bed? How many coffee mugs really need to take over your cabinet space? Do not set yourself up for failure, rather clutter, by overstocking your house with an abundance of “extras.” After all, we all do laundry and run our dishwashers often enough that having just a limited amount of overstock excess is really all that’s necessary!
